To Summarise today's US open Men's Singles Finals between Daniil Medvedev and Rafa Nadal,
It was a thriller contest between the two players. Especially for Rafa fans.
The match seemed to be in favour of Rafa Nadal until the beginning of 3rd set when Nadal was leading 2-0 and it was expected that Nadal would close the match in 3 or 4 sets.
But, the 6.6ft tall Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev had other plans for Rafa. His change of technics including serve and volley was very impactful for him to gain more winners.
The tall Russian tennis player's ability to quickly cover the court and play some brilliant winners placing the ball out of reach for Rafa on the opposite court prolonged the match to a five-setter.
It was brilliant tennis from both the players. Nadal winning the first two sets while Medvedev capturing the next two.
The match was evenly poised and more thrilling while entering into the decider set.
In the fifth set Nadal broke the serve of Medvedev in the fifth game and seventh game allowing him to take a 5-2 lead and serve for the Championship.
Medvedev saved two Championship points of Nadal. And the Time Violation factor for Nadal played spoil sport as he lost his first serves on a couple of occasions leading to a double fault to give Medvedev a break point win in the eighth game of the decider.
The match was more thrilled when the game tally became 4-5 with Medvedev winning back to back games.
For the second time Rafa was serving for the Championship in the match. And this time it was the Russian who returned the serve long to give away Rafa Nadal the Championship point and a fourth U.S Open title.
That adds to a total of 19 Grand Slam wins for the Champion player Rafa Nadal making him closer to Roger Federer's all time Men's singles Grand Slam record total of 20.
If Nadal was the Champion, Medvedev is surely a contender for the Future of tennis considering his age and his run in the Hard courts this summer.
The Russian was very humble and made some funny comments at the presentation ceremony winning the hearts of many tennis fans.
Nadal was seen fully emotional after the win. He collapsed on the court in celebration after winning the match. Tears roll over his eyes while waving to the crowd after the win.
The US Open organisers had played a montage of all his 19 Grand Slam wins at the big screen in the Arthur Ashe stadium which moved the Spaniard to tears and a bit more emotional.
The kind of fitness and confidence that Rafa is in and the scheduling that he has planned to allow him to rest for a week off before the Major tournament has all shown more positive outcome for the Spaniard.
This Epic five setter Grand Slam win is more emotional for Rafa and his fans around the world.
Vamos Rafa!!!
With love,
Jagan
